Dear staff and pupils of Admiral Farragut Academy Tianjin，
Finally, it happened!
I am happy to write you this letter and I wish you well at Admiral Farragut Academy Tianjin.
The last year has been marked by a lot of by uncertainty and a new and different reality. Where the World of last year was open and people able to explore far away countries, it is now different. Borders have been closed and the World of traveling has been put on hold.
This year the 10th grade at Fredericia Friskole was supposed to have visited Tianjin during the school year and start an international friendship between Admiral Farragut Academy Tianjin and Fredericia Friskole. Pupils of Tianjin and Fredericia coming together and sharing stories about their lives and dreams. I believe meeting people from different countries is one of the best if not the best way of learning about the World. As Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr said:
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.”
As a new reality dawned upon us due to the outbreak of the corona virus, we at Fredercia Friskole immediately started evaluating and planning a new and different way of meeting. Fortunately, we live in an era where technology opens the World and makes it possible to meet people from different countries even though state borders are still closed.
As coordinator between our two friendship schools, it is with great enthusiasm and happiness that it has been possible for us to finally meet through the video calls.
Fredericia Friskole is a small independent school located close to the sea in the town of Fredericia. The feeling of being part of a small community is a big part of the DNA of Fredericia Friskole. Everyone knows each other and you often find the oldest pupils socializing with pupils many years younger than themselves. Having no more than 18 pupils per class also makes it possible to build deep relations students in-between as well as between pupil and teacher. This all makes it a pleasure to be a part of Fredericia Friskole.
Apart from coordinating the cooperation between our two schools I also teach English, history, social studies, religion as well as the introductory science subject nature and technology. I teach grade 4,5,6,7,8 as well as 10th grade. Teaching many subjects and many classes makes it possible for me to know more than half of the school´s pupils. One of my greatest passions is traveling and I have spent more than five years abroad traveling, working, studying, and volunteering. I love sharing this enthusiasm of the World with my pupils and inspire them to learn more about the Worlds, its countries, culture, and nature.
I will finish with a quote by Bill Nye that again illustrates the great reward of our school friendship.
“Everyone you will ever meet will know something you don’t.”
May the future bring us the possibility of meeting in person.
Kind regards and see you next time
